Calnin & Goss: Our Values and the People Behind Them
In the early 1950s, John Calnin had a Montgomery Ward truck route, which is where he met “Spud” Goss. In 1956, they decided to team up to work on small projects in the Appleton area, and in 1957 Calnin & Goss was formed.
Dedicated People, Committed to Exceptional Work
Throughout the 1960s, the business grew significantly. But in the early 1970s, “Spud” Goss became ill and passed away. John and his wife, Yvonne, pulled together the money to purchase the remainder of the business from the Goss family and kept the business going, insisting they honor “Spud” by keeping the name Calnin & Goss.
Calnin & Goss had a shop just south of College Avenue close to Perkins Drive until 1984 when they moved to the present shop built on Highway J, just north of Appleton. John took pride in this shop and office, which was state of the art for the time. He also took immense pride in his employees and their unique ability to handle projects from start to finish.
Sadly, John passed away in May 2023, but his legacy continues. Today, Calnin & Goss maintains the tradition set forth by both of our founders – an employee-focused company providing their customers with exceptional work.
